Project Description

The Purbha Dhoka Mohamai Project (NIS 2024) was a 12-day stone sculpture workshop held in Chimteswor, Belkotgadhi Metropolitan, Nuwakot. Artists from different districts of Nepal, along with one participant from India, came together to create contemporary sculptures inspired by the theme of Shiva. The workshop was organized by Alchemy Gana in collaboration with Belkotgadhi Municipality and curated by Bishal Sharu Magar. By the end of the program, five stone sculptures were successfully completed, reflecting the diverse artistic perspectives of the participating sculptors.

Centering on the theme of Shiva, the project encouraged artists to explore the deity’s symbolic forms, energy, and philosophical depth through contemporary sculptural expression. Over the course of the program, the participants engaged deeply with stone as a medium—shaping, carving, and refining ideas that connected tradition with modern artistic language.

The workshop was organized by Alchemy Gana in partnership with Belkotgadhi Municipality, ensuring strong local involvement and community engagement. Curated by Bishal Sharu Magar, the program offered guidance, technical support, and a creative atmosphere that allowed each artist to push their individual boundaries.

By the end of the workshop, five stone sculptures were successfully completed. Each piece reflected not only the artist’s personal interpretation of Shiva, but also the collective spirit of the workshop—highlighting collaboration, cultural storytelling, and contemporary Nepali sculptural practice. The project stands as a meaningful contribution to the ongoing development of stone sculpture in Nepal.
